SHOW RULES

Junior Members

Full-Time Students under the age of 18 years of age.

 

Novice Cactus, Novice Succulent

Members up to and including 7 years membership.

 

Open Cactus, Open Succulent and All Comers

Any Member of the Society may enter.

 

     *All plants must have its Plant Identification and your Competitor’s Number.   

 

All species of Cylindropuntia, Harrisia and Opuntia
(other than Opuntiaficus-indica and Tephrocactus)
are not allowed on the Show Bench or to be sold or traded by vendors in the sales area.

 

1. There are no entry forms or fees.

 

2. You must be a financial member of the Society, and have owned the exhibits for at least six (6) months prior to the show.

 

3. Please ensure that your plants are pest and disease free before placing them on the show benches.

 

4. Please Do Not Water your plants for at least 24hours before placing them on the show benches.

 

5. The Show Secretary has the discretion to reject exhibits considered unsuitable and remove them from the show benches.

 

6. All entries must be staged before 8:15am on Saturday morning, preferably on Friday evening between 4:00pm and 7:00pm.

 

7. Vendor members proposing to sell at the show must enter at least ten (10) show quality plants in the show. Failure to do so, may disqualify that member from selling at that show.

 

8. Sales plants must be labelled and priced. Potted plants should have roots unless the plants are being sold as cuttings.

 

10. There is no commission for plants. Vendors may purchase a vendor space.

 

11. Section Eligibility: Except for Junior Members, entry to Novice Sections, years of membership are determined by subtracting your joining year from the current year.

 

12. Points and Prize money are awarded to winners;

for SUPREME Champion – 10 points + $100.00

OPEN Champion – Cacti – 10 points + $50.00

OPEN Champion – Succulents – 10 points + $50.00

NOVICE Champion – Cacti – 10 points + $50.00

NOVICE Champion - Succulents – 10 points + $50.00

ALL COMER Champion – 10 points + $20.00

Joan Cairis Trophy
for BEST POT & PLANT – 0 points + $20.00

 

INDIVIDUAL CLASS Points and Prize Money

1st Place in a Category - 3 points + $5.00

2nd Place in a Category - 2 points + $3.00

3rd Place in a Category - 1 points + $1.00

Highly Commended in a Category - 0 points – No prize Money

 

 

 Two trophies are awarded annually. The Johanna Stark Trophy will be awarded to the Novice exhibitor and the Bill Dunstan Trophy will be awarded to the Open exhibitor, each of whom gains the highest number of points (from both shows for the year) in all sections in which they are eligible to enter.

 

 

13. All plants on Show Benches must be clearly labelled with a generic name and preferably a specific name.

 

14. Class Eligibility: Please ensure that your plants are placed in the correct class. Incorrectly placed plants will be marked NAS (Not As Schedule), and not judged.
If in any doubt, please ask a show steward.

 

15. Competitor Number: There will be a list of past competitors and their competitor numbers. A new competitor writes their name against the next available number, which then becomes their competitor's number.

 

16. Placing Plants: Write your competitor's number on a label for each of your entries (maximum three (3) in each Section). This label should then be placed on the front of each entry in all sections, but only on one (1) pot in a section where more than one pot constitutes an entry. This number needs to be clearly visible to the judges and stewards.

 

17. Plants must be left on the Show Benches until the scheduled closing time for the show.

 

18. Any plants not claimed at the end of the show will become the property of the Society and may be disposed of for the benefit of the Society.
